So I have a 1990 TT and I believe it to be running in limp mode. When I got it last week, it was running really rough and not holding an idle. I pulled the ECU cover and discovered that it was socketed, but there was nothing in it! The chip was in the center console. Ive searched everywhere to find the correct direction of the chip/socket. It appears that my socket is installed backwards. (the notch is facing AWAY from the red LED). Is this correct, and does this potentially hurt anything if the socket is backwards, but the chip is correct (notch facing LED)? Im getting the auxilary fan coming on with the key on and cant go in to diagnostics mode. Ive also checked the main harness connection and gotten it as good as I can. It looks secure/straight to me. Thanks guys, this has been my dream car for 15 years!
